I've organized 2 free events in Leeds, Yorkshire, one on Resilience, the other on Stress Management Competencies.
Both events take place at Leeds Civic Hall on Thursday 6th December. My thanks to Leeds City Council for hosting the events and particularly to Chris Ingham for all his help in getting these events set up. The Reslience Roadshow looks at psychological research into resilience and introduces tools found to be effective for individuals and organisations, particularly from the field of positive psychology. The Stress Management Competencies event discusses the skills and behaviours managers need to prevent and reduce stress at work. We look at the management competency framework, tools and interventions that came out of a major research programme sponsored by HSE, CIPD and Investors in People. Hope you can make one or both of these events!

I've just published an event in Colchester, Essex. It's a free, Roadshow event on the Stress Management Competencies and takes place on the 17th October at Colchester Town Hall between 1.30 and 4.30 pm.
This Stress Management Competencies Roadshow is hosted by Colchester Borough Council. My sincere thanks to Louise Denyer at the Council for all her help in getting this organized. Stress Management Competencies are combinations of skills and behaviours that line managers need to prevent and reduce stress at work. A four-year research programme sponsored by the Health & Safety Executive (HSE), CIPD and Investors in People (IIP) led recently to the development of a Management Competency Framework for Preventing and Reducing Stress. The Roadshow raises awareness of this Framework and introduces the associated tools and interventions for up-skilling of line managers. Hope to see you there! I've just put together a page, which shows the organizations who have hosted or sponsored some of the 30-odd events we've organized over the past year. A big thank you to all of them.
We're now planning events over the next year, so please let me know if you're organization might be interested in hosting. There are 3 areas we're particularly (but not exclusively) interested in running free roadshow events around:
As ever they'll be high quality free events with an emphasis on providing free tools and resources Affinity Health at Work is a workplace wellbeing consultancy and research group led by Chartered Occupational Psychologists, Emma Donaldson-Feilder and Rachel Lewis. They have undertaken some of the most important workplace wellbeing research projects of recent years, including research into stress management competencies, employee engagement, resilience and absence management.
There's an opportunity now for organizations to join their Research Consortium for 2012/13. I've put together a document that you can download with information for prospective members. The document explains what's involved and the benefits for members. You'll also find links to all their research outputs, so worth downloading for that alone. Recently, I recorded a skype interview with Chartered Psychologist, Emma Donaldson-Feilder, who led the 4-year research project into the stress management competencies. Emma gives an excellent overview and insight into this research, including the key results and outcomes. This includes an explanation about the management development intervention/workshop that was developed and tested during the research. For more on the research, reports from all 4 phases of the research can be downloaded here. We've arranged for Emma to deliver train-the-trainer courses for organizations and practitioners who want to use this workshop in-house. For more information on this see our events page. Just to warn you, there is a little bit of noise interference in a couple of places in the audio, but it only lasts a few seconds each time. Both audio and video versions can be found below. The first podcast below is my introduction and the second is the interview itself. Alan Bradshaw's introduction... Interview with Emma Donaldson-Feilder... Last week I headed down to Newcastle to record an interview Katie Duncan, Organizational Psychologist at Northumbria Healthcare NHS Trust. Northumbria was one of the first organizations in the UK to implement the stress management competencies. Katie describes why they adopted this approach, the process they followed, and the results that ensued. Below you'll find both audio and video versions. Details of confirmed stress management competencies roadshow events (mostly free) and train-the-trainer events can be found on our stress events page. I've been very busy recently organising these free stress management roadshows all around the UK. They introduce and explain a new evidence-based approach to stress management based around stress management competencies.
What are stress management competencies? Stress management competencies are combinations of skills and behaviours that managers need to prevent and reduce stress at work. The seminars discuss the 4-year programme of stress research that led to the development of a stress management competency framework and associated tools. We also explain the behaviours included in the framework and introduce the tools and applications, including management development. If you're interested in these events, you can find out more and book through links on our events page. |
